Ignorance is an handicap, a handicap that affects each of us and which we find it hard to fully realize. 

It is a handicap that profoundly conditions our vision of the world. 

Being ignorant means not knowing, not knowing enough, both to understand the reality that surrounds us, and to live our lives satisfactorily. 

This is why ignorance is a handicap, and it is subtle, because we never fully realize our ignorance. We feel secure in what little we know, unfairly. 

Each of us will have experienced the frustration of explaining something to someone who is unable to understand it, not because he is stupid, but because he lacks the minimum basics to understand it, because he lacks that minimum of experience. It doesn't just happen with children. And sometimes these foundations, that we lack, heavily affect our vision of the world, our lives, and we don't even realize it. 

When I say that school is important, I mean that it is one of the important opportunities that we must be able to exploit: it is one of the first ways that we are offered to learn about reality. 

But the important thing is to learn, growing as people, no matter how! Discovering what life is, how the world and society work, discovering ourselves, our dreams and our needs. 

We can learn in so many ways: playing, working, traveling, reading, talking to people, suffering and reflecting on what we see. 

Every new thing we learn makes us understand something more about the world, increases our creativity, improves our vision of reality and makes us stronger, more independent, happier and above all freer. 

Because knowledge sets us free, free to be able to choose, aware of how many opportunities the world can offer us if we are able to see them. 

I say this because, years after I finished school, I discover every day how useful and fascinating it can be to discover new things and new aspects of reality. 

Finding out how many opportunities I have lost due to my prejudices and my limited view of reality.

L'ignoranza è un handicap, un handicap che riguarda ognuno di noi e di cui facciamo fatica a renderci conto pienamente. È un handicap che condiziona profondamente la nostra visione del mondo.

Essere ignoranti significa non sapere, 

non sapere abbastanza sia per capire la realtà che ci circonda sia per vivere la nostra vita in modo soddisfacente.

Per questo l'ignoranza è un handicap, ed è subdola, perché della nostra ignoranza non riusciamo mai a renderci conto fino in fondo. Ci sentiamo sicuri di quel poco che sappiamo, ingiustamente.

Ognuno di noi avrà sperimentato la frustrazione di spiegare qualcosa a qualcuno che non è in grado di capirla, non perché è stupido, ma perché gli mancano le basi minime per capire, perché gli manca quel minimo di esperienza. Non capita solo coi bambini. E a volte queste basi che ci mancano condizionano pesantemente la nostra vita e neanche ce ne accorgiamo.

Quando dico, che la scuola è importante, voglio dire che è una delle opportunità importanti, che dobbiamo saper valorizzare: è uno dei primi modi che ci viene offerto per imparare a conoscere la realtà.

Ma la cosa importante è imparare, crescere come persone, non importa come!

Scoprire cos'è la vita, come funziona il mondo e la società, scoprire noi stessi, i nostri sogni e le nostre necessità.

Possiamo imparare in tantissimi modi: giocando, lavorando, viaggiando, leggendo, parlando con la gente, soffrendo e riflettendo su ciò che vediamo. 

Ogni cosa nuova che impariamo ci fa capire qualcosa di più del mondo, aumenta la nostra creatività, migliora la nostra visione della realtà e ci rende più forti, più indipendenti, più più felici e soprattutto più liberi.

Perché la conoscenza rende liberi, liberi di poter scegliere, consapevoli di quante opportunità il mondo ci potrebbe offrire se noi fossimo anche solo in grado di vederle.

Lo dico perché, dopo anni che ho finito la scuola, scopro ogni giorno quanto possa essere utile e affascinante scoprire nuove cose e nuovi aspetti della realtà.

Scoprire quante opportunità ho perso a causa dei miei pregiudizi e della mia visione limitata della realtà.
