LET'S ANALYZE A SPECIFIC CASE

🇮🇹 Oggi Calvin mi ha detto che due dei ragazzi che partecipano al laboratorio purtroppo non possono andare a scuola perché non hanno i soldi per pagare le tasse scolastiche.

Questo è un problema che hanno diversi ragazzi a Kibera.

Io non mi posso permettere di pagare loro le tasse scolastiche. E questo dato di fatto riguarda anche Calvin e le altre persone che conoscono.

Questo vuol dire che il problema è irrisolvibile? No, sono convinto che ci siano modi per risolverlo.

Oppure, vuol dire che io non li posso aiutare in alcuna maniera? No, io penso che sia comunque possibile aiutarli.

Come?

Prima di tutto conoscendoli, e cercando di capire che cosa possono fare. Cercando di capire quali scelte possono fare, ed in particolare quali sono le scelte più utili.

Cosa intendo per conoscerli?

Intendo dire che ognuno di noi è diverso.

Ha sogni e speranze diverse

Ha interessi e qualità diverse 

Ha debolezze diverse

Ha risorse diverse

Ha possibilità di scelta diverse

Ha una moltitudine di esperienze e di legami con gli altri che lo rendono unico.

Questo vuol dire che è impensabile aiutare veramente una persona senza conoscerla, se non è possibile farlo economicamente. Ma anche economicamente si rischia di dare un aiuto solo molto temporaneo.

Dal mio punto di vista, aiutare veramente una persona significa aiutarla a capire, e dargli gli strumenti, affinché lei stessa sia in grado di aiutarsi da sola. 

L'unico aiuto efficace è quello che ti rende indipendente. Per questo l'educazione è lo strumento fondamentale per aiutare le persone.

🟢 A questo punto io, prima di analizzare come risolvere il problema della scuola, vorrei che i ragazzi facessero degli esercizi che penso potranno essergli utili nel futuro. E per questo li invito non solo a conservare il loro lavoro, ma anche a riprenderlo e aggiornarlo nel futuro.

➡️Vorrei che provassero a rispondere a queste domande, scrivendo le risposte su un quaderno o su un foglio.

Non è indispensabile rispondere a tutte le domande, ma è indispensabile almeno fermarsi 5 minuti a riflettere su ognuna.

Questo vuol dire dedicarci circa un'ora di tempo.

- Come vorreste immaginare il vostro futuro?

- Quali sono i vostri sogni, le vostre speranze, i vostri obiettivi, o quelle cose di voi stessi che volete raggiungere o risolvere nel futuro? Elencarne almeno 10

- Quali sono le risorse su cui potete contare ora e quelle  che vorreste avere in futuro: qualità, competenze, conoscenze, soldi, tempo, amicizie, altro... Elencatene almeno 10 partendo dalle più importanti.

- Quali pensiamo che siano le nostre qualità?

-  Quali pensiamo che siano le nostre principali debolezze? C'è n'è qualcuna che possiamo ridurre?

- Quali sono le materie scolastiche, o non scolastiche, che vi piacciono di più, che vi interessano, e che imparate più facilmente?

- Quali sono le materie in cui avete più difficoltà?

- Su quali aspetti di voi stessi pensate sia più utile investire tempo ed energie?

- Per quali sogni, speranze, o obiettivi, ha senso investire il vostro tempo e le vostre energie? 

- Cosa vi rappresenta, e cosa pensate dia senso alla vostra vita. Cioè: per cosa vale la pena vivere?

E ora vi vorrei fare le domande per cui stiamo ragionando.

Dedicate almeno 2 minuti ad ogni domanda.

La scuola a cosa vi serve veramente?

È l'unico modo che avete per farvi strada nel mondo, o per imparare ciò che vi serve per raggiungere i vostri obiettivi?

C'è qualcosa che potete fare per evitare che il vostro percorso sia bloccato dalla mancanza dei soldi necessari alle tasse scolastiche?

Ci sono modi per studiare senza andare a scuola? Ci sono altri studenti che vi possono aiutare per le informazioni e il materiale che vi mancano?

Ci sono modi per aiutarvi a vicenda?

Ci sono modi in cui io posso provare a cercare le informazioni che vi servono?

Se ancora non siete convinti, o se per ora tutto vi sembra inutile, allora questo è un motivo per provare a parlarne insieme.

Se pensate che solo i soldi vi possano aiutare, questo è un problema, ma voglio comunque provare a darvi qualche idea:

Se pensate che non ci sia niente che vi possa aiutare ad avere i soldi necessari a raggiungere i vostri obiettivi, e che non ci sia altro modo se non i soldi per raggiungerli, allora vi chiedo:

Perché un'altra persona dovrebbe voler investire i suoi soldi per farvi raggiungere i vostri obiettivi?

Cos'è che rende i vostri sogni più importanti dei sogni di qualcun'altro? 

O comunque perché pensate valga la pena investire su di voi?

Questa è una domanda che dovete imparare a rispondere prima di tutto a voi stessi. Perché siete voi i primi che dovete credere nel vostro valore, nella vostra determinazione, nel vostro impegno.

Se non riuscite non importa, ma è importante che abbiate il coraggio di chiedere aiuto, perché è forse la cosa più importante da cui partire.

Quando saprete rispondere a questa domanda, allora sarà per voi molto più facile ottenere ciò che volete nella vita.

Anche i soldi, se necessario.

🇬🇧Today my friend Calvin told me that two of the kids, participating in the workshop, unfortunately cannot go to school, because they don't have the money to pay school fees. This is a problem that several kids in Kibera have.

I can't afford to pay their school fees. And this fact also applies to Calvin and the other people they know.

- Does this mean that the problem is unsolvable? No, I'm convinced there are ways to fix it.

- Does it mean that I can't help them in any way? No, I think it is still possible to help them.

- How?

First of all by knowing them, and trying to understand what they can do. Trying to understand what choices they can make, and in particular which choices are the most useful.

- What do I mean by knowing them?

I mean that each of us is different.

He/she has different dreams and hopes

He/she has different interests and qualities 

He/she has different weaknesses

He/she has different resources

He/she has different choices

He/she has a multitude of experiences and connections with others, that make him/her unique.

This means that it is unthinkable to truly help a person without knowing them, if it is not possible to do so economically. But even economically there is a risk of providing only very temporary help.

From my point of view, truly helping a person means helping them understand, and giving them the tools, so that they are able to help themselves. 

The only effective help is the one that makes you independent. This is why education is the fundamental tool for helping people.

🟢 At this point, before analyzing how to solve the school problem, I would like the kids to do some exercises that I think will be useful to them in the future. And for this reason I invite them not only to keep their work, but also to take it up and update it in the future.

➡️I would like them to try to answer these questions by writing the answers in a notebook or on paper.

It is not essential to answer all the questions, but it is important to at least stop for 5 minutes to reflect on each one.

This means dedicating about an hour of time.

- How would you imagine your future?

- What are your dreams, hopes, goals, or those things about yourself that you want to achieve or resolve in the future? List at least 10

- What are the resources you can count on now, and those you would like to have in the future: quality, skills, knowledge, money, time, friendships, other... List at least 10 starting from the most important.

- What do you think you best qualities are?

-  What do you think your main weaknesses are? Are there any you can reduce?

- What are the school or non-school subjects that you like best, that interest you, and that you learn most easily?

- What are the subjects in which you have the most difficulty?

- Which aspects of yourself do you think are most useful to invest time and energy in?

- What dreams, hopes, or goals does it make sense to invest your time and energy in? 

- And the last one, the most difficult one, very difficult for really everyone in the world. If you can, try to think about it a little:

What represents you, and what you think gives meaning to your life. That is: what is worth living for?

And now I would like to ask you the questions we are thinking about.

Dedicate at least 2 minutes to each question.

What is school really for?

Is it the only way you can make your way in the world, or learn what you need to achieve your goals?

Is there anything you can do to prevent your path from being blocked by a lack of the money needed for school fees?

Are there ways to study without going to school? Are there other students who can help you with the information and material you are missing?

Are there ways you can help each other?

Are there ways I can try to find the information you need?

If you are still not convinced, or if everything seems useless for now, then this is a reason to try to talk about it together.

If you think that only money can help you, this is a problem, but I still want to try to give you some ideas:

If you think that there is nothing that can help you get the money you need to achieve your goals, and that there is no other way other than money to achieve them, then I ask you:

Why would another person want to invest their money to help you achieve your goals?

What makes your dreams more important than someone else's dreams? 

Or in any case why do you think it's worth investing in you?

This is a question that you must learn to answer first of all for yourself. Because you are the first ones who must believe in your value, in your determination, in your commitment.

If you don't succeed it doesn't matter, but it is important that you have the courage to ask for help, because it is perhaps the most important thing to start from.

When you know how to answer this question, then it will be much easier for you to get what you want in life.

Even money, if necessary.
